FAQ’s
Before considering your choices in trees and shrubs, we recommend you consider the following:
1. What is the primary purpose of this tree, i.e. shade, privacy, form?
2. Are you requiring dappled light, full shade or evergreen? 3. What height, width and shape do you ultimately want your tree to get to? 4. Are you looking for other features such as autumn colour, or spring flowers, or both? 5. Is your site sheltered or windy? 6. Are there some difficult aspects to the site, e.g. salt spray, boggy soil?
Answers from these questions will help ascertain which trees/shrubs will best suit your requirements.
Planting Guide
We suggest the following when planting your bagged trees:
1. Dig a square hole slightly wider, but the same depth as the bag your tree is in.
2. Lean the tree on its side and then, with a knife, cut an “X” on the bottom from corner to corner and only 4-5 cm up one side.
3. Using the handles of the bag, lift the tree into the hole and position it as you require. The top of the root ball needs to be level with the ground around it.
4. Continue the cut you made in step3 all the way to the top and remove the bag.
5. Backfill the hole and pack the soil firmly.
6. Stake the tree using either metal or wooden stakes and tyre tubing or webbing at approximately 1 metre from base of tree.
7. Water well upon planting and regularly thereafter.
